故事描寫的是1888年時英國人在Riotinto采銅礦時的情況，因當時銅礦場擁有權的英國公司，使用一種最經濟的方式采集銅礦，但這種方式早在多年前英國當地就己經禁止使用，因為此種方式不禁造成許多污染，也讓許多礦工因此生病，而燃燒的廢料飄至空中再隨雨水降落大地，產生的硫磺導至附近的農產業也都無法生長，但英國公司只以經濟為考量，并不在乎一床床生病的年輕童工，執意使用同樣方式，而引致造成罷工及屠殺事件，一連串的真人真事歷史。
